Dutch Lessons in Hamilton

Our Dutch speakers, fully qualified to teach their native tongue, can train you and, if need be, the rest of your group at a time that is suitable to you, at your home or place of work. Sessions can take place on the day of your choosing - even weekends - and at the time you want: whether it be morning, afternoon or evening. If circumstances arise where your home or office is not convenient, the classes can be held at your trainer's office. Resources for the lesson are provided for you.

Dutch 1 to 1 General

These Dutch lessons fit a broader spectrum, and can be useful for those who need different things from the language. Most beginner students will have a handle of survival Dutch by the end of their lesson, which will provide them with enough Dutch to communicate at least at a basic level during short trips to the country, but those who require more would benefit greatly from these sessions. Typical students have been those eager to travel all over the world, those buying overseas property, those with foreign spouses, aficionados of Dutch culture and those who just wish to pass a particular Dutch exam.

Dutch 1 to 1 Business

Dutch lessons of this type are aimed towards those that need to learn Dutch to aid them with their employment. For those just starting out, it is integral to learn basic greetings and business etiquette; and reading and writing can be adopted once the simple precepts are out of the way. Success has come from students who are involved in import/export, international negotiations and acquisitions, those seeking jobs in multinational companies, and those working with foreign colleagues, academia and bureaucracy. Just our most basic beginners lesson will have the student finishing the lesson with basic telephone/e-mail skills in Dutch, as well as survival Dutch should a short stay in the country be needed.

Bookings must be made for all students simultaneously. Listen & Learn do not propose group sizes or more than 6-8 people, but In-Company Taster Dutch Lessons can occur with up to 12 people.

Dutch Facts

Dutch uses the Latin alphabet with a few extra characters; an easy way of spotting Dutch is the proliferation of double letters, for example the word 'voorraaddoos' ('supply box')

Afrikaans is not simply a Dutch dialect; it's a completely different language which evolved from Dutch

Dutch is similar to German in many ways, but words do not change form so much, making it quite close to English in some respects

Hamilton

Over half a million people live in Hamilton, making it the ninth biggest city in all of Canada. After years of relying on steel and heavy equipment manufacturing for its primary revenue stream, the economy of Hamilton is now more focused on the service industries, specifically the healthcare industry. The largest such company in the area, Hamilton Health Sciences, employs a large number of people in the community and serves the medical and healthcare needs of over two million people in the area. Many film and television productions companies have filmed in Hamilton. The universal look of the city – and the scenic backdrop make it an ideal choice. Although the city of Hamilton is mostly white, there are a number of Asian and Southeast Asian families living there. With the international business community picking up steam in the area, knowing languages such as Chinese, Japanese, Arabic and Spanish can advance one's career rather quickly.
