Portuguese lessons of this type are broader and are aimed towards students with a variety of requirements. While all beginner level students will cover survival Portuguese - needed for short visits to countries where English isn't widely spoken, or if you wish to 'go local'; those studying Portuguese usually go in different directions at this point, depending on what they need. Those who have benefitted from these Portuguese classes have been those investing in or buying property overseas, those married to overseas nationals, people setting off on a round-the-world trip, enthusiasts in Portuguese culture, and those enthusiastic to pass a specific exam in Portuguese.
These Portuguese lessons are driven towards people who have a requirement to learn Portuguese to bolster their work output. For novices, you will find it useful to learn basic greetings and business etiquette; and once you have become more proficient then reading and writing will come to the fore. Typical students include those concerned with import/export, those seeking work in multinational companies, international negotiations, and anyone working with international colleagues or administration. Even on our most rudimentary beginners lesson, students can expect to finish the lesson with decent telephone and e-mail Portuguese, as well as a good enough grip on the language for a short trip to the country.
If there are 2 or more of you with the same level of Portuguese, the same targets within the language, and be able to study at the same time and location, then you'll be happy to know that these Portuguese lessons can also be made available for Two-to-One Portuguese Lessons or Small Group In-Company Portuguese Lessons. Listen & Learn do not generally recommend classes of more than 6-8 people, although Taster lessons in Portuguese can run with up to 12 people. Bookings must be made for all participants at the same time.
Portuguese and Spanish may have strong similarities, but there are also gaping differences; such as a widely differing stock vocabulary (i.e. basic, common words), very different word endings, and a more complex usage of the definite article ('the')
A pluricentric tongue, Portuguese has two man dialect groups - that of the 'Old World' (Europe) and that of Brazil
Portugal were responsible for the first ever Japanese dictionary translated into a European language - the 'Nippo Jisho', made in 1603

BostonBoston is the capital city of the commonwealth of Massachusetts and the biggest city in New England, housing around 600,000 people - though as the economic center of the region the city's population often swells to around 1.2 million during the day. The city is very cosmopolitan in terms of the cultures littered around the metropolitan area - there are sizeable communities of Irish, Italian, West Indian, Vietnamese, Bosnian and Croatian people, meaning there are different languages being spoken throughout Boston. With its reputation as a great hub of learning in the area (more than 100 colleges and universities are found in the Greater Boston Area), the city is a superb location to learn a new language.
