Italian Lessons in Houston

Do the words broccoli, fiasco, propaganda, flu, quarantine, lottery and zucchini sound familiar? That’s because the English language has had extensive contact with Italian and has borrowed hundreds of terms. For example, Italian has been a widely spoken language in the USA for over 100 years because of large-scale migrations of Europeans to the Americas in the 18th and 19th centuries. So, you already know some Italian; now, why not learn the rest?

Expand your knowledge and become proficient in Italian with us at Listen & Learn. Speaking Italian can be an asset when planning adventures overseas: With almost 70 million speakers worldwide, you are likely to encounter Italian speakers anywhere you go. And it will come in handy if you wish to visit the stunning Sistine Chapel, the Roman Forum or the Colosseum in Rome! So, take some lessons with Listen & Learn’s native-speaking teachers and soon you’ll be able to identify false cognates and speak Italian fluently. For example, you’ll discover that the word attualmente does not mean “actually” but instead translates as “nowadays.”

And learning Italian will not only be useful abroad: Houston has an impressive 40,000 speakers living in the city. So, after taking some lessons with Listen & Learn, you can put your Italian to the test by joining language exchange groups like the Houston Italian Meetup to meet and speak with some of them. Attend its weekly gatherings and you will get to put your Italian skills into play while socializing with other learners and native speakers!

Reach out to Listen & Learn today and we will prepare a personalized course that suits your desires and skills. Whether you want to learn Italian for travel, study at university, socialize, or any other reason, we are here for you!

The type of courses we offer:

Face-to-Face 1-to-1 (Individual) General Italian

These Italian lessons fit a broader spectrum, and can be useful for those who need different things from the language. Most beginner students will have a handle of survival Italian by the end of their lesson, which will provide them with enough Italian to communicate at least at a basic level during short trips to the country, but those who require more would benefit greatly from these sessions. Typical students have been those eager to travel all over the world, those buying overseas property, those with foreign spouses, aficionados of Italian culture and those who just wish to pass a particular Italian exam. Face-to-Face 1-to-1 (Individual) Business Italian

These Italian lessons are driven towards people who have a requirement to learn Italian to bolster their work output. For novices, you will find it useful to learn basic greetings and business etiquette; and once you have become more proficient then reading and writing will come to the fore. Typical students include those concerned with import/export, those seeking work in multinational companies, international negotiations, and anyone working with international colleagues or administration. Even on our most rudimentary beginners lesson, students can expect to finish the lesson with decent telephone and e-mail Italian, as well as a good enough grip on the language for a short trip to the country. Con te partirò - Andrea Bocelli

This is a timeless love song performed by one of the most famous Italian singers of all time, Andrea Bocelli. In this piece, the artist dreams of traveling to new places with his lover, so it’s a great opportunity to learn vocabulary related to love and companionship. Also, Bocelli has great diction and enunciates the words clearly, making it a good song for beginners to start training their ears. Some expressions you’ll be learning are “con te” (with you), “su navi per mari” (on ships overseas), “tu mia Luna” (my moon), and more! Listen to this amazing song by Andrea Bocelli!

Almeno tu nell’universo- Mia Martini

Mia Martini is one of the most well-known famous singers in Italy who often sings about heartbreak and disappointment. That is the case of Almeno tu nell’universo, where the poetic protagonist sings about loving a strange man, unique in this world, but who doesn’t pay any attention to her. The song is almost entirely sung in the conditional tense, so it’s great practice for intermediate or even advanced students looking to expand their knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. There is heavy use of adverbs, for example, like davvero (really) or per sempre (forever). Enjoy her song here!

L’emozione non ha voce - Adriano Celentano

This song follows a man who’s confessing his love for a married woman, knowing she will never love him back. Still, he claims that his love will last for life. As the song is slow and Adriano Celentano pronounces each word very clearly, beginner students will find it easy to start training their listening comprehension while picking up some new words, such as “amico” (friend), vita (life), dormir (sleep), and more! The song also uses the future tense a lot, so it’s great if you’re looking to practice that particular grammatical feature while listening to great music. Click here to listen to this hit!
