Hyphy, one of Fresno's favorite slang terms!

<<< Back to Slang USA Cities Map
(adjective) Wild; crazy.

Used to denote that something is crazy and out of control.

Mark: “It’s finally Friday.  What should we do tonight?”

Ron: “I’m hitting that new club downtown."

Mark: “That place is hyphy!“

“Hyphy” is said to have come from a couple of different places.  On one hand, claims are made that say it came from the word hyper, or hyperactive.  Like many slang words, it was simply shortened and twisted a bit.  The other, more likely explanation is that it is a combination of the words hype and fly, indicating that something is wild and crazy but in a very good way.

The song “Hijack” by Tyga, feat. 2 Chainz demonstrates this word
