<<< Back to Slang USA Cities Map
(verb - phrasal verb) "I swear"; to promise

It is a more polite way to exclaim shock, surprise, or curse, without actually using a curse word.  Some people may say ‘I’ll swan’, and others may say ‘I swanee’.

Ellen: That boy from down the road is always into trouble.  If I see him up to no good again I’ll tell his mother, I swan.

Leah: What’s he been doin’ this time?

Ellen: Throwin’ rocks at the cats and lighting fires.

Leah: The little shit.
