German Lessons in Calgary

Did you know that the German alphabet contains a unique consonant not found in any other Indo-European language? It’s called the "eszett," and though it looks like a “b” (ß), it is pronounced like a double “s.” If you want to discover more interesting facts about the fascinating German language, while learning to speak and understand it, don’t hesitate to contact Listen & Learn! We will prepare a course tailored to your preferences, so you can become fluent (or achieve specific learning targets) in a very short time! For instance, we’ll show you that this language is also famous for compounding its words to create news ones, and explain why this can be an advantage when learning. One benefit of compounding is that you can understand new words if you already know the individual words that form the compound, such as how kinder (“children”) and arzt (“doctor”) combine in German to create kinderarzt (“pediatrician”).

And your learning journey does not have to end when the lesson with our native-speaking instructors are over. Instead, you can join language exchange groups like Calgary German Language Meetup to gain confidence and put your skills into practice. And you’ll discover that knowledge of German is an asset in Calgary and can help you advance in your career, as many companies of German and Austrian origin are always hiring bilingual speakers. You can even get in touch with the German Business Center if you want to expand your own business overseas and into German-speaking territories!

Get in touch with us at Listen & Learn and we will prepare a course according to your specific skills and needs. Our professional instructors will prepare interactive lessons that will make you forget you are learning a language because of how much fun you will be having! Contact us today and soon you’ll understand what unique German words like schadenfreude (pleasure derived by someone from another person's misfortune) or fremdschämen (the process of being embarrassed by someone else) mean!

Taking one example, the song Eisbär describes a man who wants to become a polar bear and gives all the reasons while he’d like to be this wild animal. Curious, right?
