Banned Books Week

Banned Books Week, the annual celebration of “the freedom to read”, finished on October 6th.

The Huffington Post has an interactive infographic on the 10 most challenged and banned books of 2012. They also have a graph of trends of book challenges – interesting as whilst the number of books being challenged has fallen since the mid-1990s, they are still challenges at a rate of 1 per day.

There are no titles on the list in different languages, but one of the most challenged books is a manga novel by renowned Korean manwha creator Kim Dong Hwa – The Color of Earth. It’s set in rural Korea.

Which banned books would you like to read? Are there books in other languages that have been banned and you would like to try?
