4 top places to visit in Argentina

Famous for its formidable national football team, the rich culture of Buenos Aires, and the beauty of Patagonia, there is plenty to keep you occupied—and plenty of opportunities to speak Spanish! Though where in Argentina should you start? 

 

 

Buenos Aires

Why wouldn’t you start your Argentinian adventures in one of the most famous, beautiful cities in the world? You could learn about the preparing (and eating) of steak, take a river cruise along the Tigre, or learn to tango while sampling wine! From beautiful architecture to city parks, and more restaurants, cafes, and bars than you can probably fit in during your trip, Buenos Aires has plenty for you to see and do. You could visit a different theatre every night and you wouldn’t even scrape the surface of what’s on offer, or spend a day exploring some of the city’s most stunning street art. Whatever you choose to do will be a great way to put your Spanish to practice!

 

Patagonia

Patagonia is a more sparsely populated area of Argentina; particularly if you visit there after being in the nation’s capital! Shared with Chile, Patagonia is all mountain peaks, pristine rivers, and wide open spaces. Perfect for taking a breather in if your mind is overwhelmed by being new to using Spanish all the time! This is the place you come to climb, admire the most stunning scenery nature can throw at you, watch wildlife, and really take the time to unwind. If you want to keep up your Spanish here that is easy enough to do; wherever you end up staying overnight will give you ample practice, and you can always join a walking tour, or wildlife spotting excursion. There is so much to see and do in Patagonia!

 

 

Córdoba

If you’re wanting another picturesque backdrop to your Spanish adventures, you can’t really go wrong with Córdoba. This city in central Argentina sits at the foothills of the beautiful Sierra Chicas on the Suquía River, and is the second-largest city in the country. So you get the best of both worlds; incredible nature and a bustling, vibrant city to explore. So what kind of things can you do? Well, for nature lovers you can try horse riding in the mountains, a great way to get a little one-on-one Spanish practice in if you’re going with a guide. If your language skills (or your confidence) improves in the presence of alcohol, you can take a wine tour to both practice Spanish and sample some of the best local wines. There are bus tours if you don’t feel like walking, and day trips if you do, and just about everything else you can imagine in between. Really, why wouldn’t you want to visit Córdoba? 

 

 

Mendoza

Are there any cities in Argentina that aren’t beautiful? Mendoza is another example of a place that combines incredible natural scenery with a thriving cityscape. Here you are in the foothills of the eastern side of the Andes, so will have something breathtaking to see wherever you look. For things to do, plan your trip in advance since Mendoza offers so much. There are thermal spas, mountain excursions, and of course wineries and vineyards to visit; Mendoza is famous for its wine, after all! If architecture is your thing, you could spend a day just wandering around the city with a camera in hand, visiting places like the Pasaje San Martin or the Ministerio de Cultura. Imagine wandering freely through the streets of the city making casual conversation with people you pass, or having lunch in a cafe and making new friends over delicious local cuisine. Mendoza as a city really is a must-see if you are traveling in Argentina.
