Animation influences language?

I consider myself reasonably well travelled, and have done most of my travelling on a (small) budget. This means I’ve stayed in a lot of hostels. One thing that unites hostels the world over is what’s on TV – at some point you’re almost guaranteed to see The Simpsons.

Personally, I’m not a fan of the show (I prefer Futurama), but cannot deny it’s had a huge cultural impact. Which, no doubt, is why 320 linguists from around the world were asked which words from the show have most impacted on the English language.

Doh!’ has apparently had more of an impact than any other expression, although “craptacular” and “meh” have also made their mark. Apparently:

A description of the French as “cheese-eating surrender monkeys”, which gained popularity with US critics during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, is also among the phrases which have entered the global lexicon via the small screen. (Source)

Can’t say I’ve ever heard that one myself. What’s your favourite or most-used Simpsonian expression?
